Amilovesgurumi

Wishes

A few weeks ago my friend came over for a visit with her little daughter. We had a great time chatting and laughing and her daughter played happily all evening with my Amigurumi.

Just before they left she came over, looked up at me coyly with her big blue eyes and timidly asked me, “Could you please make me one too?”Of course I said “Yes”, I love this cute little thing so how could I refuse such a request? So I asked, “And what kind of Amigurumi would you like to have?”

I was expecting her to say something like a Kirby, a princess or Hello Kitty, but I was very much mistaken. This lovely little girl with her long blond locks and shy smile announced, “I want an Iron Man!”
“Oh, and how big should he be,” I asked, somewhat taken aback. She opened her arms very wide and said: “Soooo big!”

After they’d gone I started to hunt the internet for a pattern but as I suspected there was very little information available and nothing even close to the size I needed.

But I wanted to give her her Iron Man so I set to crocheting madly, unravelling it and starting again, trying out different ideas and studying all the pictures. I finally succeeded and there he was, my Iron Man!

“I’m sorry, I still like the Iron Man, but I’d much rather have … ” and she whispered her new heart’s desire to me. This shouldn’t have come as a surprise as I know how fickle children are and how they change their minds from one minute to the next but it took me a moment to take this on board.

I felt totally deflated and had to make an effort not to show my own disappointment after all my hard work and enthusiasm.

… and the Iron Man ? I sent him to her anyway and have since heard from her mother that he takes pride of place on her bed where he can “protect” her.

Naturally I’m overjoyed to hear this and, who knows, maybe soon my angelic little friend’s second wish will be fulfilled?

Luckily this time I didn’t ask for a special size and I think, there are nice patterns on the internet, I tell you more about this later. So I’d better make a start and get crocheting now …

And here is the pattern for the Iron Man: Iron Man

    1. Thank you Vanja. It is no problem anymore for boys to play with dolls and girls playing with cars. When I was a child, they wouldn’t allow the boys to play with “girl toys”. I loved to make the Iron Man for this girl and I will tell you about her second wish: Pssspssss… Did you hear it? No? I’m sorry, you have to wait until I write about it. 🙂

  3. Hi just wanted to let you know how happy you have given me some translation all the time I could not make head or tail what’s being written. Thank you very much for the absolutely gorgeous Iron Man. Will try to crochet it later and show you. Happy New Year!

    1. Hello Patricia, thank you for your nice comment. I try my best with the translation in the English language, as it is not my native language, but fortunately there is Google translation, which helps me sometines. I would be very happy to see a picture of your crochet Iron Man and I wish you a lot of fun crocheting!

  4. Hello Karin, my name is Lynn and I want to thank you for providing the pattern for your awesome Iron Man doll. My grandson loves Iron Man and so I wanted to surprise him by crocheting the doll for him but I’m having a hard time understanding the instructions. I can’t get past R 02 for the Leg. Can you please help me? Thank you!

    1. Dear Lynn, I’m so happy that you crochet the Iron Man for your grandson. I send you a picture to your private mail, so it is easier to understand the second row for the leg. Have fun crocheting!

  5. Thank you for this pattern in English! I was able to make Iron Man for my nephew and even adapted it to make a Captain America . I know he will love them!

    1. Dear Cathy, thank you for using my pattern to make the Iron Man. It is so nice to read that you also made Captain America out of the pattern! Surely your nephew will love both of them!!!!

  6. Hi Ami,
I love this pattern and could also adapt it to a Captain America pattern. I have 2 sons, one loves Iron Man, the other one loves Captain America… You should post a Captain America pattern. I haven’t found anyone (which was nice enough) on the web. That’s why I’ve adapted yours. I could send you pics if you like!

    1. Hallo Règine, I would love to see your Captain America and show it here on my blog. So if you could send me a picture, I would be very happy! Thank you and have a nice day.

  8. Hello:
I would love to make this iron man doll but I am having trouble getting the pattern to download? What can I do about this? Thanks!
    Wendy

  9. Hello,
Thank you for sharing your great pattern. By far the best thing i found so far. and i love your story. I have a 4 yr old girl who has loved iron man since she was 2. However, I’m also having trouble getting past round 2. I’m a little confused because my stitches never add up to the amount I’m supposed to have at the end of round 2. I always end up with 10 stitches somehow. Can you please help me understand it a little better?

    1. Hello Vanessa,
thank you for your nice comment. Let’s see if I can help you:
      1. make a chain with 8 x ch
      2. start crocheting in the second chain from your hook and crochet along the chain 6 x sc
      3. you should be almost at the end of your chain, now make in the last ch 3 x sc
      4. turn around the chain and keep on crocheting on the other side of your chain: first you crocheted on top and now on the bottom side of the chain.
      5. crochet 6 x sc and in the last ch, make 3 x sc in one stitch (this is was the first chain of your hook, when you started to crochet R 02
I hope this will help you.
      Have fun crocheting, Karin

      1. Thank you so much for your advice. It took a while but u finally finished. I tweaked your design a little and made a groot with an iron man suit. It came out great! Thank you so much. I wish I could share the picture with you but I haven’t figured out how. But thanks again for sharing your great pattern.
